Roy's occupation was Farmer when he enlisted at Muswellbrook in November 1915 and served in the 19th Battalion A.I.F. Prior to enlistment he had served in the 6th Light Horse, West Maitland. His parents address was 'St. Hilliers' Muswellbrook and Kanwal Road, Wyong, NSW.

Roy departed Sydney on the 'Orsova' 11 March 1916 and arrived France via Egypt May 1916. He spent from May to October 1916 in hospital at Marseilles France seriously ill with influenza.

Private Roy Geoffrey SMALL was killed in action near Baupaume, France on 17 March 1917 age 20.
