Septimus was educated at Camden Grammar School. His occupation as grazier at Cooyar, Queensland when he enlisted on 21 July 1915 in Brisbane and served in the 49th Battalion A.I.F.

Septimus departed Sydney on the 'Star of Victoria' 31 March 1916 and arrived in France via Port Said and Alexandria in June 1916.

He had 2 brothers Cedric Richard and Charles Henry who served in the A.I.F. Charles Henry Glanville was awarded the Military Medal.

Septimus was wounded in action on 1 September 1916 in France receiving a gunshot wound to his right shoulder. He recovered and was back in the field in France by March 1917.

Private Septimus Douglas GLANVILLE was killed in action in Belgium on 7 June 1917 age 26.
