Edmund gave his occupation as Labourer when enlisted 22 August 1914 at Randwick, and his next of kin his sister Mary Maher of Harris Street Ultimo.
He had previously served in the Victorian Imperial Regiment in the Boer War 18 May 1900 to 1901.

Edmund served in the 2nd Battalion A.I.F. He departed Sydney on the 'Suffolk' 18 October 1914. He was wounded in action (scalp wound) 8 June 1915 at Gallipoli.

Edmond's brothers James, Patrick and Bruno Geary also served. Bruno died of Uraemia after returning from overseas.

Private Edmund Geary was killed in action at Gallipoli between 7 and 14 August 1915 age 37.
