Bert's postal address was Menangle and he gave his occupation as Carter, Engine Driver when he enlisted at Casula on 10 February 1916 and served in the 53rd Battalion A.I.F.

He left Sydney on the 'Ceramic' 13 April 1916. and arrived at Marseilles via Egypt on 29 June 1916.

He was admitted to hospital with German Measles on 28 July 1916 and rejoined his unit on 8 August 1916.
He was admitted to hospital sick on 8 May 1917 and rejoined his unit on 18 May 1917.
He was on leave in England from 15 August 1917 and returned to active duty on 27 August 1917.

Private Bert GALE was killed in action in Belgium on 23 Sep 1917 age 26.
