Birth: 29 May 1894 Douglas Park, NSW, Australia Death: 22-27 July 1916 Pozieres, France, Killed in Action Cemetery or Memorial: 26 Villers Bretonneux, France Soldiers' Memorial Macarthur Park Camden Father: Thomas Charles BRAIN (abt 1865 - 1937) Mother: Hellen REYNOLDS (4 Sep 1861 - 5 Aug 1896) Percy's occupation was Blacksmith when he enlisted at Camden in August 1915 and served in the 18th and 3rd Battalion A.I.F. His mother was born in Camden and died at Douglas Park when Percy was age 2. He gave his grandfather William Brain of Elderslie as his next of kin. Percy departed Sydney on the 'Euripides' 2 November 1915 and arrived in Marseilles via Alexandria on 28 March 1916. Percy's cousin Private Bruce Stratton died in France in 1917 and two other cousins Trooper William Brain and Private Vhere Brain also served overseas. Private Percy Sydney Raymond BRAIN was killed in action at Pozieres in France between 22-27 Jul 1916 age 22. |
